Hey followers! Edition Filmmuseum released a DVD in June that has four Asta films on it. What’s so great is that for the first time, her comedies are available to the public! I thoroughly enjoyed watching Das Eskimobaby and Das Liebes-ABC so I hope that you guys have the chance to watch them and the other two films on the DVD (Die Suffragette and Die Börsenkönigin).

Still from Das Liebes-ABC.
…because you don’t have Asks enabled, I comment through the submit-box ^^ (also I’m not sure if you are German or not - if so, you can answer me in German :D )
Re Pandoras Box & Erdgeist: They are both parts of a drama named Lulu by Frank Wedekind, Erdgeist is the first part. So the question is - which part does the Asta-film cover? Maybe they really did both parts as 2 movies, or combined as one and changed the title… Just speculating. Btw, I really like your blog ^^

neuro-mantique’s note: I am so glad that you responded! I did not know that about Wedekind (all I knew was that Pandora’s Box [the film] was based on a play) so I thought that Pandora’s Box was one play and the movies Erdgeist and Pandora’s Box were stemmed from this one play. If that is the case that Asta made two different films, I still find it a bit weird that she would make part 2 first and then make part 1 of the play. The film version of Erdgeist is very similar to the play (at least from the plot on Wikipedia) so I wonder what happened to Pandora’s Box. Maybe it really is a lost film. What’s also weird is that both Pandora’s Box and a few other “suspicious” films on IMDb aren’t on the Danish Film Institute’s website, which is why I want to check out the book released by the Filmarchiv Austria to see if they list these films.
What a mystery!
Asta in Erdgeist.
I am starting to think that there never was a Pandora’s Box that Asta was in because during my research, people would mention that she was working on a film called Pandora’s Box, but I think that the title was eventually changed to Erdgeist. I believe that the year between Pandora’s Box and Erdgeist is only one year inbetween so this is why I suspect this. I’d have to consult that huge Asta Nielsen book set though.
And sorry for the ratio stickers on the side.
Hello everyone! Thank you for being patient! I have some new things that I found from my travels and research that I will share here.
Here is a fancy scarf-thing that she received and she wrote a letter, which I assume is a letter of thanks.
My scanner is being an idiot and I can’t scan anything!!! I hope that I’ll be able to share something with you guys later though from my research. I have a feeling this Tumblr will end up being “Journey through my research” instead of “Let’s all coo over Asta!” although through my research, we can all ooh and aah over Asta!
